The Text component uses a WYSIWYG editor, or “what you see is what you get,” that should look very similar to programs like Word. The toolbar allows you to apply basic formatting. In addition, when the component window is maximized, a ‘View source’ button is available that allows users to examine the HTML code for those familiar with HTML Always copy plain text into the AEM editor and format it in AEM. Trying to copy text directly from programs Word can bring over unseen code that interferes with creating clean HTML. Both internal and external links can be created with the link tool. For accessibility, be sure to use meaningful text for links. Links should never be ‘click here’ or ‘read more.’ When creating internal links, whether to other AEM pages on the site or AEM assets such as document files, always use the “path picker” tool to navigate to the AEM page or asset. Do NOT cut-and-paste internal links. When the picker tool is used to create your links, AEM can track and fix links that could be broken if-and-when pages and files are moved or reorganized. The Paragraph formatting tool also allows you to create H2 through H6 headings inside your Text component. There are no definitive rules on when to include headings in your Text component rather than adding headings separately with the Headings component. However, one useful strategy to consider is to separate Text components and Heading components when your headings will remain fairly consistent over time, but the text associated with those headings will require frequent updates, such as information about traffic impacts from long-term construction projects.
