Laredo District Engineer
Epigmenio "Epi" Gonzalez, P.E. is the district engineer for TxDOT's Laredo District, a position he has held since November 2022.
His responsibilities include overseeing the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the state's transportation system in the eight-county district, which includes Duval, Kinney Dimmit, Duval, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Val Verde, Webb, and Zavala counties.
Epi began his TxDOT career in 1995 as an engineering technician in the Pharr District Office. In 2004, he graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville with a degree in civil engineering through TxDOT's Degree Completion Program. He returned to the Pharr District where he worked in a variety of positions including construction, design, and maintenance.
In 2011, he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a master's degree in civil engineering. After graduation, he oversaw the design of several major projects while managing the design team for the Pharr District's Central Design Office.
In 2017, Epi became the area engineer for the Austin District's South Travis Area Office until April 2021, when he accepted the position of director of transportation operations for the Pharr District, where he helped modernize operations.
In his free time, Epi enjoys spending as much time as possible with his family and watching University of Texas (UT) sports.
