Marc D. Williams serves as executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation where he is honored to work alongside the over 13,000 men and women of the agency to enhance safety, mobility and quality of life for Texans by delivering on the agency's mission of 'Connecting you with Texas'.
With over 200,000 on-system lane miles of highways, 57,000 bridges and 500 million daily vehicle miles of travel, Texas is home to the most extensive and heavily used state transportation system in the nation. Texas' multimodal transportation network moves over 4 billion tons of freight worth $3 trillion annually.
Williams' career experience in transportation encompasses over three decades of work that includes public- and private-sector organizations involving state, county, and local jurisdictions. He has served in leadership positions with two state departments of transportation and has worked with both national and private-sector transportation engineering organizations.
Williams serves as Vice President of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and Chair of AASHTO’s Transportation Policy Forum and Strategic Management Committee. Williams also serves as President of the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO). He is Chair of ITS America’s Board of Directors and a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB)’s Executive Committee. Williams is also a member of Texas A&M University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Council. Williams is a registered professional engineer in Texas.
