US 83 widening north of Menard

Additionally, TxDOT is providing an in-person option for individuals who would like to participate in person instead of online. The in-person public hearing option will be held in a “come and go” open house format and will be held on:

Attendees will be able to:

• In-person attendees will have the opportunity to attend a presentation by TxDOT staff and the project team.
• Participate in the project development process by reviewing hard copies of project materials and details.
• Ask questions of TxDOT staff and consultant project team.
• Provide verbal testimony and/or submit written comments and feedback.

The purpose of this public hearing is to provide information and gather public input on the proposed widening of US 83 from the Concho County line to US 190 north of Menard in Menard County, Texas.

The proposed project would extend approximately 11.3 miles along US 83. The existing typical section consists of a rural two-lane undivided highway with alternating passing lanes within a 100-foot-wide right of way. The proposed project would widen US 83 within an approximate 470-foot-wide right of way and be constructed in two phases: 

• Phase I (interim design) would primarily widen US 83 to a four-lane divided highway
• Phase II (ultimate design) would widen US 83 by constructing frontage roads on either side of the interim design mainlanes. Construction of Phase II would be dependent on funding and interstate planning.

In addition, construction would occur on approximately 0.15 mile of US 190 to improve the US 83/US 190 intersection, and approximately 0.54 mile of FM 3463 to realign the US 83/FM 3463 intersection. 

The virtual public meeting and in-person option will be conducted in English. If you need an interpreter or document translator because English is not your primary language or you have difficulty communicating effectively in English, one will be provided to you. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. If you need interpretation or translation services or you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend and participate in the virtual public meeting or in-person option, please the TxDOT San Angelo District's public information officer at 325-226-4032 no later than 4 p.m. CT, at least three business days before the date on which you would like to review the project materials or submit information. Please be aware that advance notice is required as some services and accommodations may require time for TxDOT to arrange.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 9, 2019, and executed by the Federal Highway Administration and TxDOT.
