US 290 Feasibility Study
Hays and Blanco counties
Rapid population growth has caused increased traffic demand and congestion along the US 290 corridor, which serves as an important travel corridor for residents, communities, local businesses, and schools in Hays and Blanco County. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is conducting a feasibility study to analyze mobility and safety needs on a 17.5-mile segment of US 290, a two-to-four lane undivided highway, from US 281 to Roger Hanks Parkway. As part of the study, TxDOT will analyze current and future mobility and safety needs along the US 290 corridor and identify potential improvements.
Project development process
The project development process consists of the following four phases:
- Feasibility study consisting of constraints analysis and development of conceptual roadway design alternatives (WE ARE HERE)
- Environmental study and schematic design
- Final design, acquisition of right of way, and utility adjustments
- Construction
Advancing to the next phase depends on the previous phase outcome, as well as funding availability.
Public involvement
TxDOT is committed to working closely with local community groups and stakeholders in all aspects of the study to ensure the public has the opportunity to comment, voice concerns, and ask questions. Public input is a highly valued and important part of creating improvements to address transportation needs, and the public's feedback will help inform the study's recommendations.
