US 290 improvements
The TxDOT Bryan District is developing plans to improve various crossings along US 290 between FM 1371 and FM 577 in Washington County, Texas. The proposed improvements would close the existing crossovers and construct Restricted Crossing U-turn (R-CUT) intersections with offset U-turns at each location to enhance safety and improve the operation of the intersections.
These intersections simplify decision-making for drivers and minimize the potential for higher severity crash types, such as T-bone accidents. R-CUT intersections allow left turns into intersecting side roads and eliminate left turns for vehicles exiting the side roads. Vehicles wanting to make a left from a side road would take a right and then utilize a U-turn offset from the intersection to change direction. TXDOT does not anticipate any right of-way acquisition for this project. Construction is anticipated to begin mid-2025.
