Paisano Drive and Montana Avenue Corridor Study

TxDOT El Paso District developed a corridor study of Paisano Drive and Montana Avenue (US 85 and US 62) from Sunland Park Drive to Loop 375 in El Paso. The study analyzed and evaluated the current and future transportation needs for the Paisano Drive and Montana Avenue corridor, gathered feedback from stakeholders and the public, and developed a Corridor Study Report.

Study limits

The study area includes 11.5 miles of the Paisano Drive corridor between Sunland Park Drive and Montana Avenue and 9.0 miles of the Montana Avenue corridor between Paisano Drive and Loop 375. The corridor passes through Downtown El Paso, Bridge of the Americas (BOTA), and the El Paso International Airport and serves as a major east/west connection for various communities along its route.

Primary objectives

The primary objectives of the study include the following:

  • Identify the current and future corridor challenges and needs
  • Document the communities' vision for improvements along Paisano Drive and Montana Avenue
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements for safety, traffic operations, multimodal, drainage, and intelligent transportation systems

The study began in 2022 and included a process of data collection, review of existing conditions, and public outreach. After consideration of the input provided from public meetings and stakeholder interviews, improvements were developed and refined into short-, mid-, and long-term recommendations.

Public involvement

Coordination with the public, stakeholders, elected/public officials, and other agency officials was conducted throughout the study. A series of public meetings were held on October 17 & 18, 2023 and April 2 & 3, 2024.
