US 90 Expansion
The US 90 Expansion project will be constructed in phases:
Phase I: I-410 to Loop 1604
Anticipated construction timeline: late 2025 through 2030
Length: 3.3 miles
Total project cost: $146 million
Improvements:
- Reconstructing and widening US 90 from two to three 12-foot-wide mainlanes from I-410 to Loop 1604 with continuous two-to-three lane frontage roads in each direction.
- Constructing a two-lane flyover ramp connecting westbound US 90 to northbound Loop 1604.
- Constructing a roundabout at Ray Ellison Boulevard to improve safety and traffic flow.
- Building auxiliary lanes in certain locations along the frontage roads to optimize traffic flow at key intersections.
Phase II: Loop 1604 to SH 211
Anticipated construction timeline: 2028 – 2032
Length: 4.3 miles
Total project cost: $339 million (only partial funding secured)
Improvements:
- Reconstructing and widening US 90 from two to three 12-foot-wide mainlanes in each direction from Loop 1604 to SH 211.
- Adding two-to-three continuous frontage road lanes in each direction.
- Adding auxiliary lanes in some locations.
- Adding a westbound-to-eastbound turnaround at the US 90/SH 211 intersection.
- Adding eastbound-to-westbound turnaround bridges along US 90 at Loop 1604 and Montgomery Road.
- Constructing additional improvements at the US 90/Loop 1604 interchange.
Adjacent projects
The following projects are under construction adjacent to the US 90 corridor:
- TxDOT completed construction of a project to add a westbound-to-eastbound turnaround at SH 211 in late 2025.
- Auxiliary lanes are under construction between Loop 1604 and Montgomery Road, anticipated to be complete in mid 2026.
