TxDOT's Innovative Transportation in Texas program identifies, evaluates, and develops innovative solutions to meet Texas' growing transportation needs.
The program is the foundation of TxDOT's innovation ecosystem, which includes internal and external stakeholders working with local, regional, state, and federal agencies, as well as research institutions to address safety, mobility, and community transportation needs.

Innovation community of practice
Shaping the future of Texas transportation requires a culture of collaboration. The TxDOT Innovation Community of Practice provides opportunities to share and discuss innovative solutions and new technologies.

Innovation champions
As representatives of their districts and divisions, TxDOT Innovation Champions identify new ideas and solutions, share information, and promote a culture of innovation. Champions are also advocates and liaisons for innovative projects that originate or deploy in their districts or divisions.

Innovation academy
Through online courses and lunch-and-learn discussions, the TxDOT Innovation Academy offers opportunities to develop innovation competencies and strategies for identifying, validating, and implementing innovative ideas.

Recognizing innovation
TxDOT proudly recognizes innovative solutions and an exemplary commitment to innovation. Award recipients and nominees have implemented innovative projects or ideas with outstanding initiative and creativity, helping TxDOT address critical challenges through innovation.

Emerging technology assessment and pilots
As TxDOT looks for new tools and technologies to improve safety, reduce costs, manage and analyze data, streamline and automate processes, and address other challenges, the Emerging Technology Assessment and Pilot Programs evaluate and test the most promising innovative solutions.

Innovation partners
TxDOT works with many innovation partners and collaborates through various programs and workgroups, including the Texas Innovation Alliance, the Texas Technology Task Force, the FHWA Every Day Counts program, and the AASHTO Innovation Community of Practice.
